Among the many available resources, wave energy is one of the key resources to consider. KTH has been actively involved in researching the wave energy converters. Since 2019, a winch based point absorber wave energy converter (WBPA-WEC) is being researched and developed.
Since wave energy converters (WECs) are complex systems, development of a WEC with low levelized cost of energy (LCOE) is a challenge. In this workshop, we aim to discuss some of these challenges. These include – developing durable transmission/ mechanical systems and lubrication , wear and fatigue of underwater components. We have many speakers from the industry sharing their experience. Stefan Björklund, CTO at Novige AB has been actively involved in the development and commercialization of NoviOcean. He shall be sharing his experience with us from the design and calculation perspective. Ian Sherrington, Director at Jost Institute of Tribo-technology and John Leckner, Technical Manager at Axel Christiernsson will be sharing their knowledge on tribology and lubrication for underwater components.
We hope to bring forth a platform where like minded researches in academia and industry can interact and exchange knowledge in the development of ocean and wave energy harvesting.
